With the sunshine bowing its head to make way for the colder months, we all need a statement coat to keep us warm during the winter chill. AW14 trends tempt you to a range of catwalk inspired looks. From classic leather jackets to oversized dusters and faux fur ensembles, you’re bound to find a coat for you from your local high street.

Boyfriend Coat

After the record breaking sell out of M&S’ trademark baby pink coat of AW12; the boyfriend coat was bound to return this season. The competition between stores is as fierce as ever, with ASOS revealing their adaptations which can be seen on Natasha above, this coat slips into the high fashion androgynous trend with a feminine twist. When teamed with a chunky knit, some ripped skinnies and ankle boots; you’ll be equipped with the ultimate pastel look this season.

Spotted on superstars such as Kendall Jenner; the duster jacket is the perfect way to bring the kimono into a sleeker shape for autumn/winter. High street brands have tailored these into an oversized fit to create the ideal companion for any layering look. Produced in an array of colours, New Look has launched a textured duster, adorned with androgynous lapels. Looking for something more edgy? Why not incorporate the chequered trend into your outerwear with Topshop’s edition at £79.

The popularity of vintage has only increased in recent years. From 1970s flare to 1990s grunge, these trends can all be found this AW14. A statement of the mods, the parka keeps appearing as a firm favourite throughout the high street. Labelled as a fashion basic, ASOS have launched the “Ultimate Parka” in a classic khaki with contrasting faux fur trim. For a more elegant cut, Zara present an oversized adaptation with all the classic details intact.

If you want more fur from your AW14 coat then the array of faux fur jackets this season may be more up your street. As this has been a strong look for years, high street designers have started to diversify from the classics, making them multi-textured (Mango, £79.99) through to high-fashion bold (H+M, £49.99).

Another wardrobe staple, the leather jacket is back once more this season. The biker and aviator designs have been dominant both on the runway and throughout our favourite stores. This year retail giant Warehouse have combined these two looks to create a sleek yet edgy jacket, perfect for a range of outfits.

90’s Inspired Leather

With 1990s fashion making a u-turn back into the 2000s, we have seen its influence flowing into our leather this season. Zara have created the ultimate in sleek with this maroon straight cut trench; an ideal accessory for relaxed chic.

From feminine drapery to oversized elegance; the high street has stepped up its fashion game and spoils you with a range of compatible coats. The battle of the brands is as fierce as ever, so whatever your style, you know you will be able to pick up an affordable yet well fitting piece this autumn/winter.
